POSITION:

Ruby on Rails Software Engineer

Location: San Francisco Bay Area

We’re looking for an expert, energetic Ruby on Rails Software Engineer with a start-up mentality!

Reporting directly to the CTO, this position offers a unique opportunity to work with a highly collaborative development team, apply acquired technical skills in a test driven development environment, and expand expertise quickly. We believe in short iterations and direct involvement with the business. We are also maniacal about well-thought, high-scale architectures, as we build the fastest-growing, feature-rich, collaborative learning platform for businesses and professionals.

The successful candidate will have experience working in an agile development environment and meeting schedules while developing high quality code. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their adaptability, intelligence and personal motivation to get the job done.  This position allows the flexibility to either work from San Francisco or from our office in Mountain View.

Some of the specific responsibilities include:
•    Write code in Ruby on Rails / HTML / CSS / Javascript / Ajax
•    Implement new features and optimize existing features from the controller level to UI level
•    Work closely with, and incorporate feedback from, product management, interaction designers, and back-end engineers
•    Rapidly implement features, fix bugs and solve production problems

We’re looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
•    Strong CS fundamentals gained through a Bachelor’s degree in CS, Math or related discipline or equivalent industry experience
•    At least 2 years’ experience developing code using Ruby on Rails, building world-class, consumer web applications
•    Expert Javascript / HTML / CSS / Ajax coding skills
•    Experience working in a test driven development environment with an ability to demonstrate a disciplined approach to testing and quality assurance
•    Strong command of web standards, CSS-based design, cross-browser compatibility
•    Good understanding of web technologies (HTTP, Apache) and familiarity with Unix / Linux
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
•    Demonstrated ability to creatively and proactively execute code
•    Desired skills include:
•    Experience using an MVC framework in a production environment, particularly with Ruby On Rails
•    Experience using MySQL in a production environment
•    Experience scaling high traffic websites (architecture / database / memcache)
